Magy is the photographer.
Always.
A small editorial food studio in Sheikh Zayed. One photographer. Two food stylists. A long-running prop library and a continuous calendar of restaurant, brand and publisher commissions.
Magy · Founder
Magy Studios was founded in 2019 by Magy in a converted ground-floor apartment in Sheikh Zayed. The studio began as a single shoot space, a single camera and a single belief: that Egyptian food deserved to be photographed with the same intentionality as the cuisines of New York, Paris or Sydney.
Magy trained originally as a printmaker at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Helwan before apprenticing for two years under a Beirut-based food photographer. That training — half craft, half image — is still visible in the studio's work today: a printer's discipline about color, a photographer's discipline about light.
The studio now serves restaurant brands across Egypt and the Gulf, packaged-food companies launching premium lines, and cookbook publishers in Cairo, Beirut and London. Magy remains the only photographer at the studio. Every frame is hers. Food styling is handled in-house, with Hana El-Sherif joining as second stylist in 2022.
We believe food photography is an editorial discipline, not a service discipline. We work the way a magazine works — slowly, with strong opinions, with a small team that has earned the right to those opinions.
We refuse most briefs that ask for fakery. We do not glue, we do not spray, we do not ink. The food in our frames is the food on the plate, photographed at its most honest moment.
We charge for craft, not for theatre. Our quotes are flat, written, and complete; our deliverables are always more than the brief required.
