ZAD Granola — Packaging Photography
ZAD Foods · Product & Packaging Photography
ZAD Foods was relaunching its flagship granola line with new pouch packaging across four flavours: classic oat, date and tahini, cocoa nib, and pistachio rose. The packaging design — by a Cairo-based studio — relied on a single hero photograph wrapped around the pouch face. That image had to do significant work.
The brief was unusually specific: each flavour needed to read as an ingredient story, not a serving suggestion. The team did not want bowls, milk, or breakfast tableaux. They wanted the granola itself, raw and architectural, photographed as if it were a material sample.
A secondary deliverable was a set of e-commerce hero images for Amazon, Talabat Mart and the brand's own DTC site — same ingredient logic, but with permission to be slightly more lifestyle-adjacent.
We built a four-day rig in the studio with a single overhead light source modified through a 4x4 frame and bottom fill from sub-aubergine bounce. The granola was photographed on hand-dyed parchment in tones tuned to each flavour — warm ecru for classic, deeper umber for date, charcoal for cocoa, dusty rose for pistachio.
Each ingredient was hero-styled separately — a single date split open, a single cocoa nib, a hand-cracked pistachio — and shot in matching light so the design team could composite tightly across the pouch surface without color drift.
The DTC images extended the system: the same granola in the same parchment, but now spilled, scattered, captured mid-pour. Designed to feel like the product had just escaped its bag and was sitting on your kitchen counter.
